One of the most widely used intumescent paint is based on two-component epoxy resin with 100% volume solid. These coatings are used as insulation against hydrocarbon fires with excellent resistance to atmospheric conditions, water and oil spillage and impact. Intumescent paints are easy to use and can be applied with a low thickness on the surface of offshore installations and platforms, storage tanks and etc. These coatings are resistant to heat shocks and have good adhesion on steel, concrete and galvanized surfaces. Application method of intumescent paint is very simple which can be applied in 2 or 3 layers by airless spray, two-component spray or roller.
Another type of intumescent paints is based on water-soluble resins which are used in interior parts of residential and commercial buildings, hospitals, airports, sport complexes and etc. This type of intumescent paint is sensitive to moisture and is not suitable for outdoors. Intumescent paints are odorless with very low volatile materials which do not harm to the environment. According to ASTM E119 and UL 263, this type of coating can withstand fire for up to 180 minutes with a thickness of 1-6 mm.
